9/11 Commission Report

Many well known and respected professors have expressed significant criticism of the 9/11 Commission Report.  Several even allege government complicity in the terrible acts of 9/11.  This page of the website is a collection of their statements. The website does not represent any organization and it should be made clear that none of these individuals are affiliated with this website.

Listed below are statements by more than 400 professors that contradict or are critical of the 9/11 Commission Report.  Their collective voices give credibility to the claim that the 9/11 Commission Report is tragically flawed.

These individuals cannot be simply dismissed as irresponsible believers in some 9/11 conspiracy theory. Their sincere concern, backed by their dedication to researching and teaching the truth about a wide variety of subjects, demonstrates that criticism of the Commission Report is not inherently irresponsible or illogical, and that, in fact, it can be just the opposite.

The first was the fire and its effect on the steel supports.   Careful scrutiny of video of the collapse of the South Tower (WTC2) shows the upper segment (above the airplane strike) listing, then dropping, then disintegrating or pulverizing.  There was a massive explosion near ground level immediately before those events.  Using only common sense and reflection, the tilt-then-drop sequence shows the building's central structural steel core (including stairwells, elevator shafts, utility conduits, etc., and mainly, 47 thick-walled 2'X4' box section steel columns) had by some agency been made insubstantial and unable to bear weight.  Putting that together with the ground level blast and the subsequent pulverization it is clear very powerful explosives had to have been in play.  The airplane strike was a mere smokescreen.
  
  Understanding the mechanism of the collapse leads to additional important questions.  Who planted the explosives?  What kind of explosives were used?  When were they planted?  And for what reasons would someone destroy not only the Twin Towers, but all the buildings in the World Trade Center?

  Crockett Grabbe: Basically I disagree with Garcia.  Garcia puts forth a plausible argument for how this could have happened.  And the forces he describes are quite logical.  But there's one problem; it doesn't agree with the data on the collapse.
  
  Let me mention three facts to you.  First of all, the collapse was very rapid.  For example, the building was 580 feet tall. ... The World Trade Center 7 collapsed in less than 7 seconds.  It was almost like the whole building came down in free fall. ...   So, accusing someone of lying with math needs, as a rule, someone else who is math literate. That’s me. Yet in the case of “Progressive collapse” this is not even needed (and it would be time-consuming and incomprehensible to the average reader). It is sufficient for you, the reader, to just be able to read and not be scared by pseudo-scientific jargon used in the article. The jargon is being used there for a clear purpose – to hide behind it the zero scientific value of the paper. I know that there is no scientific value to this paper because I read and referee scientific papers all the time and have been doing so for years. When you are not scared by the jargon, you, too, can easily see that the author gives himself away rather easily. ...
  
  In the case of Progressive collapse, the harbingers of nonsense are also clearly visible. Let me show them to you:

  " …it is clear that the initial loads imposed by both parts falling onto the undamaged buildings beneath were exceptionally high due to the unforeseen preceding events, and that damage was bound to propagate into the floors below: this is the initiation phase. It is also clear that both collapse modes were progressive, as indicated by film footage: there was the sound of each successive impact of floor upon floor and a matching sequence of lateral ejection of debris. Therefore, it is valid to consider the behavior formally in the proposed terms.”

  Yes, indeed, there were sounds of each successive impact. But there were also sounds of explosions and there are other important factors (for instance unusually melted steel, angularly cut beams, insufficient temperature to melt steel, and so on). The author seems to not care about these factors. Why? Because taking them into account would force him to choose a different model and he is either not willing or not able to do so.
  
  Then we have:

  “Accordingly, the assumption of progressive collapse enables a continuum viewpoint, which permits a simpler formulation compared to, say, a finite element analysis.”

  He clearly tells us that it is his assumption that enables him to choose “a simpler formulation”. And what if he had taken a different assumption? Well, the answer is easy: He could well get a different result such as the building collapse pictured at left!
  
  He continues:

  “A frivolous but useful analogue is the inflation of a rubber party balloon”

  It is indeed a frivolous analogue. But then, his model of progressive collapse is a frivolous analogue. ...
  
  Finally our author admits:

  “The collapse mode is highly idealised: none of the falling mass moves laterally; any impulsive action between successive floor impacts is neglected; and the final stage of collapse after the crush-front reaches the base is discounted. However, the incorporation of these features into a subsequent model would rely on estimations apportioning their relative contributions, which are not straightforward. Such refinements may negate the ability to obtain closed-form solutions, which are essential in ascribing the generic character of behaviour and for distilling key formulae ….”

  In short, one cannot include all the elements involved with the collapse of the WTC towers because if you did, you would not be able to obtain the solution that Seffen has obtained by discounting them. Notice this: “ the incorporation of these features into a subsequent model would rely on estimations apportioning their relative contributions, which are not straightforward”. And he then tells us that obtaining "the solution" he has already decided he must obtain – is “essential”.
  
  Now we understand. If he would incorporate some additional “features”, he would not be able to get to the conclusion that he has been instructed to get, or wishes to get in order to “move up” in the academic world controlled by politics!
  
  So what does this paper prove? It proves only one thing: that is so easy to distort our understanding of the world.   Moreover, the symmetrical collapse is strong evidence of a controlled demolition. A building falling from asymmetrical structural failure would not collapse so neatly, nor so rapidly, as you have pointed out.
  
  What we are faced with is a lie of such proportions that even to suggest it makes one subject to ridicule and scorn. Who could have done such a terrible thing? Certainly not our government or military. Rogue elements in the intelligence agencies? I have no idea.

  "September 11, 2001 has changed the course of history and changed the entire global framework.  Following the tragic and spectacular attack, which killed three thousand innocent people, most of the truisms of western culture have been shattered.  9/11 was followed by a U.S. offensive that has already produced two wars and changed not only the geopolitics of entire areas of the planet, but also the balance of power that had evolved over the previous decades.
  
  Although the attack has been responsible for changing the world with remarkable speed, a comprehensive explanation of the events of September 11, and their planning, took over three years to be drafted by a commission of inquiry authorized by the Congress of the United States.  And a single entity has been judged to be entirely responsible and condemned to life imprisonment.
  
  However a careful analysis reveals that the official version of 9/11 is not only deficient in dozens of essential points, but in dozens of other points it is demonstrably false.
  
  These falsehoods, the reluctance to begin the investigation, and the apparent inconsistencies of the official story, raise most serious questions.  There is no need to lie when the truth is clear. So, if the official powers lie, this means that they want to prevent the emergence of truth.  And the deceit indicates that the alleged suicide bombers did not act alone and that they had powerful allies at various levels of the U.S. establishment: in the institutions responsible for defending the security of the country. ...
  
  Faced with so many inexplicable oddities surrounding such a crucial event in our common history, we must ask questions and seek answers.  Many have done just that in the last several years and a huge amount of facts, data analysis, and images has already been collected and placed under the scrutiny of rigorous testing.  They confirmed all the suspicions.  We intend to add our own contribution to this work, aware that peace and democracy are in serious danger until these efforts manage to shed light on who was responsible and in what exact manner the terrorist attacks of September 11 were made. ...
  
  We are aware that assessments of the extent of official complicity in September 11 may vary considerably.  However we are compelled by our conviction of the need for an independent investigation and because of the enormity of these implications that it is absolutely essential.  We do this on behalf of the victims, foremost, but also to defend world peace and the lives of citizens, whose civil and human rights were seriously undermined, as a result of September 11, as were the fundamental conventions of international law."  The full text of the original petition in Italian is available at http://www.zerofilm.info

• Review of The New Pearl Harbor 4/12/04: "A new book written by David Ray Griffin, a professor of theology at Claremont School of Theology, raises significant and pungent questions about the involvement of the Bush administration in the tragedy now known as 9/11. This book reads like a fine detective novel. Nonetheless, its author has done his research very carefully and it is in the marshalling of the evidence that the suspense is created. It is difficult to overestimate the importance of this book in bringing to our attention facts that challenge any attempt of the administration to explain away its responsibility, or even complicity, in the events of 9/11. Whatever you now think of the Bush administration and its handling of 9/11, this book is must, essential reading because it presents in careful, scholarly manner facts that have to be dealt with in any further analysis of the 9/11 tragedy and its aftermath, the war on terrorism. ...
  
  In closing this review I want to make two comments. First is to commend Professor Griffin for an independent, careful and systematic examination of the evidence. He has set before us sufficient data on which to base an impartial opinion of the 9/11 event. Secondly, the conclusions of this book make it abundantly clear that we have the greatest problem in our history on our hands, far greater than the Nixon Watergate scandal.
